Umpires
Back in the day, there were National League umpires and there were American League umpires. Like today, umpires worked in crews of 4, with the most senior or experienced man being named Crew Chief.
On August 25, 1978, umpires of both leagues staged a strike. A restraining order compelled them to return to work after missing just a single game. For that game, MLB employed the services of replacement umpires drawn from minor and other leagues.
